Missouri Western Second Jurisdiction COGIC Gayla Affair to Celebrate Supervisor Mary K. Sims Appointment

On March 10, 2017, Bishop John M. Johnson, Missouri Western Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Prelate, appointed Mother Mary K. Sims as Supervisor to the Jurisdictional Department of Women, at the 16th Annual Ministers and Worker's Conference. She will be officially reappointed at the 110th Holy Convocation of the Church of God in Christ by the newly appointed General Supervisor, Mother Barbara McCoo Lewis.

Since the appointment, Supervisor Mother Sims has already made a strong impact and visible difference in the women's work. Her motto is, "Were better together," and with that attitude she brings a "Yes Lord and Willing-Worker Spirit" that is contagious! She is very soft-spoken and approachable, but firm and focused! She is extremely compatible with Bishop Johnson, supportive of his vision, and the prime example of following leadership. She imparts wisdom and brings structure to the Department of Women as a whole.

Supervisor Mother Sims is no stranger to the position, and hard work. On November 11, 2005 she was officially installed as Supervisor in the Kansas East Jurisdiction by Mother Willie Mae Rivers at the International Church of God in Christ Holy Convocation in Memphis, TN. She served in this capacity from 2005-2012. She was appointed in November 2010 to the International Department of Women Executive Board, and in 2017 to the International Administrative Facilitators Board. In 2015, Mother Sims was recognized as one of The COGIC's 150 Most Influential Women.

Supervisor Mother Sims is a native of Kansas City, Kansas, and is familiar with the Greater Metropolitan area and its social issues. She is the second eldest daughter of the late Superintendent Moses Cofield and Missionary Hattie Cofield, who reared her in the church (Proverbs 22:6), exposing her to every level from local to national work. Professionally, She is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Supervisor Mother Sims has served in ministry with her husband, Bishop Ervin Sims, Jr., at the Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ for the last 37 years in many capacities. She is a licensed evangelist, motivational, and keynote speaker for many events in the USA, as well as abroad. She has traveled over twenty-one times to Africa with her husband on missions trips.

Supervisor Mother Sims is a devoted wife and mother. She and Bishop Sims have been married for forty-seven years. They have three children, Lisa Sims Smith (Keith), Ervin Jason Sims (LaSandra), and Angela Jenelle Sims. They also enjoy their role as grandparents with seven grandchildren, Kasey, Keith Donavon, Kristian, Taylor, Jaylen, Ethan and Jayla.
