"Mr. Laguna" about to celebrate 50 years as a real estate professional in Laguna Beach, CA.
Online PR News – 21-October-2017 – Laguna Beach, CA – Rick Balzer, affectionately known as “Mr. Laguna,” is about to celebrate his 50th year as a real estate professional in Laguna Beach, the town he’s lived in his entire life.rnrn“When I was 18, I had a lot of desire and energy, but I didn’t know where to focus it for my career. A friend recommended I take the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation aptitude test. The result of my test said I should be a salesman in an artistic field,” said Rick, a REALTOR®-Broker Associate in the Laguna Beach office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties. rnrn“Using the data from the aptitude tests, I decided to take a class in salesmanship at Orange Coast College. I found sales wasn’t the typical stereotype I had imagined. I was renting an apartment from Herb Nolan, Laguna’s top broker at the time. He made room in his office for me, and what a great mentor he was. I got my license in September 1967, and was with Herb for four years starting January 15, 1968. I’ll be celebrating my 50th year on that date in 2018.”rnrn“Rick was a success right from the start. His second year in the business, he won an award for selling the most homes from the Laguna Beach Board of REALTORS®, and in 1973 he was the board’s REALTOR® of the Year,” said Jim Vermilya, Branch Manager of the Laguna Beach office.rnrn“In addition to his work in the real estate community, Rick is well-known as an active and enthusiastic community and civic supporter. His friends call him ‘Mr. Laguna.’”rnrnA seasoned negotiator, Rick has successfully closed more than 1,200 transactions. In his first five years alone, he closed an average of almost 29 a year. Continuously advancing his knowledge to better serve his generations of clients, he earned the Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) and Certified Real Estate Broker (CRB) designations from the National Association of REALTORS®.rnrnAfter five decades in the business, Rick still looks forward to coming into the office to meet with clients and associates. “Jim Vermilya and I go way back, and it’s just a pleasure to come into the office and connect with him on a personal and professional level,” he said.rnrnIn the community he loves, Rick helped relocate a historic building now known as the Chateau Building due to its unique architecture, and which housed his first real estate business. He also served three terms on the board of directors of the Laguna Beach Board of REALTORS®, served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club, and on the boards of the Laguna Art Museum, and Laguna Beach Community Foundation, and is active with the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
