Online PR News – 13-October-2017 – Fullerton, CA – The Museum of Teaching and Learning (MOTAL), a museum dedicated to educating people about education, celebrated its 10-year anniversary last month. To mark the occasion, MOTAL held a gala entitled “School Days: Come As You Were” at The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, CA. The gala honored the arts in education with a juried art auction. Gala Art committee members included: Jim Dahl, Betsy Gibbs, Jesse LaTour, Matthew Leslie, Greta Nagel, and Paul Nagel.
During the celebration MOTAL presented three Arts Advocate of the Year awards to educators who extend learning outside the classroom and within the community. The honorees were Fullerton School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Pletka, retired Dean of Fine Arts at Fullerton College Robert Bob Jenson, and retired elementary school teacher from the Oceanview School District Carlone Herman.
The gala brought together a wide variety of people ranging from educators, public officials, artists, and supporters. Entertainment included Improv by Second City Hollywood, rock-and-roll music and dancing by The Ravelers, and a selfie booth! Additional educational activities included hand writing analysis and displays of two of MOTAL’s traveling exhibitions, A Class Action: The Grassroots Struggle for School Desegregation in California and Two Roads, One Journey: Education in China and the United States.

The Museum of Teaching and Learning is largely supported by the greater Orange County area and the team of active volunteeers that make MOTAL a possibility. With growing ties to other museums MOTAL has formed an alliance with museums around the country with the intent to open a museum about education in Washington, D.C.
The Gala was sponsored by Mary Deming, Minard Duncan, Michael Habashi, Dan Jacbosen, Terry Kristiansen, Greta Nagel and Loren Doll. Additional sponsors included the following organizations Blick Art Materials, Camp Bow Wow, Guardian Financial Partners, LCPtracker, McCoy Mills Ford, Print ’n’ Save Inc. and Village Art Center.
