Performance Auto Group is Excited to Offer Many of the TOP SAFETY PICKS Awarded by the IIHS

The Performance Automotive Group in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska is proud to carry several of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's 2011 TOP SAFETY PICKs.

Online PR News – 23-December-2010 – – Several Performance Auto Group vehicles were named by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2011 TOP SAFETY PICK. This award recognizes vehicles that excel in protecting passengers in front, side, rollover and rear crashed based on ratings in IIHS tests. The ratings are aimed to help consumers pick vehicles that go above and beyond what the federal safety standards require.

“Safety is a priority among this crop of winners,” said Adrian Lund, President of IIHS. “From the start these manufacturers set out to design vehicles that would earn TOP SAFETY PICK.”

Winners of the award must have high crash test ratings, as well has have available electronic stability control, a feature that drastically reduces the risk of a crash. In 2010, the IIHS made the criteria even tougher by adding a rating requirement for performance in roof strength for protection in a rollover crash.

“In just a year, automakers have more than doubled the number of vehicles that meet the criteria for TOP SAFETY PICK,” said Lund. “That gives consumers shopping for a safer new car or SUV – from economy to luxury models – plenty of choices to consider in most dealer showrooms. In fact, ever major automaker has at least on winning model this year.”

One of these automakers is Ford, who, in 2011, upgraded the roofs of the Ford Flex and the Ford Fusion. Ford also released the new design for the Ford Explorer midsize SUV, which had never won a TOP SAFETY PICK until this year. The all-new Ford Fiesta is also among Ford’s TOP SAFETY PICKS as the only minicar to win this year.

Another leader in awards this year is Toyota/ Lexus/ Scion with a total of eight awards. The Toyota Sienna was the only minivan to win TOP SAFETY PICK. In addition to its safety features, the 2011 Sienna is the only minivan to offer all-wheel drive, and at 19/24 mpg city/highway, the Sienna has the best combined mpg ratings of any seven- or eight-passenger van.

Volkswagen received a total of six, including the only winter in the Large SUV category for the Volkswagen Touareg. The totally redesigned Volkswagen Jetta also won in the Midsize car segment for the sedan and sportwagen models. The 2011 VW Jetta, introduced this summer features several improvements at an even lower price than its predecessor. Add all this to its TOP SAFETY PICK award and the 2011 Jetta is an attractive choice for consumers.

In 2009, more than 12,000 people in the U.S. died in frontal car crashes, more than 6,000 died in side impacts, and more than 8,000 died in rollovers. With staggering statistics like these, the Performance Auto Group of Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska is proud to offer this extensive list of IIHS 2011 TOP SAFETY PICKS.
