Running from 4 to 6 March at the city’s premier exhibition venue, and is expecting to draw jazz music-lovers from across the world. The festival is one of the largest in the world, with more than 200 acts, totalling over 1600 musicians performing every year to huge audiences of jazz fans. Over 70,000 people are expected to arrive in the city for the March event. The Java Jazz Festival’s motto is ‘Bringing the World to Indonesia’ and the festival, with its plethora of international acts, does just that.

It’s a great chance for local jazz artistes to compare styles with others worldwide, and creates each year a new harmony of people from all nations brought together by music. With so many visitors arriving, finding a hotel in Jakarta may be tricky during festival dates. Jakarta is also a thriving business destination, with its hotels occasionally struggling to keep pace with demand during major events.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head of, one of the internet’s popular hotel booking sites, stresses that this is a huge event and that hotels across the city are likely to be fully booked. He suggests that booking a room well in advance of your arrival date is the safest way to ensure you’re not sleeping on the streets!
