Online PR News – 23-December-2010 – – Glen Ellyn, IL, – Learning best practices, improving installation techniques, and building code-compliant deck installation are the guiding principles of Deck & Railing University. Held in conjunction with FENCETECH/DECKTECH’11, this powerful one-day course is aimed at deck builders looking to gain more knowledge of safe and professional deck building, fence contractors who want to add deck building to their business and code and building officials who want to learn the latest deck and railing standards and best practices.. Building safe decks is a serious issue. Each year, there are 500,000 to 800,000 decks built in the US, and every year hundreds of people are injured as a result of faulty deck and railing construction. In fact, nearly 200 people have died as a result of a deck or rail collapse in the last ten years, most of which were caused by defective construction methods, unsuitable or substandard materials and lack of maintenance.

At Deck & Railing University, fence and deck professionals will learn to build safe, code-compliant deck and railing installations. Deck & Railing University sets the standard in construction quality because it teaches participants about new deck and railing building materials and products, as well as the latest information with regard to building codes and proper installation practices.

Topics include: material options, rating and performance; DCA6, prescriptive guidelines for residential deck construction; ICC & building code requirements; safety assurance – up-to-date product and code requirements; substructure installations; ledger and post connection; liability information, risk assessment and compliance and hands-on training. In addition, school quality is being assured through the work of The Learning Studio, a training consulting firm that is creating the formal training curriculum and coordinating the school.
