Tinu Afolabi is ranked 65/7,100 students (top 1 percent) studying at Level L (the last level in the curriculum) in Kumon North America and is only the seventh student to complete the reading curriculum at Kumon of Perrysburg.
Online PR News – 22-December-2010 – – Toledo, Ohio – Christine Cady, owner/director of Kumon of Perrysburg announces that local sixth grader, Tinu Afolabi, has completed the Kumon reading curriculum. As of September 2010, Tinu is ranked 65 out of 7,100 students (top 1 percent) studying at Level L (the last level in the curriculum) in Kumon North America and is only the seventh student to complete the reading curriculum in the seven years that Kumon of Perrysburg has been open.
The curriculum covers material up through 12th grade and uses authentic literature and skills instruction to develop a student’s language skills. Throughout the program, critical reasoning abilities, that prepare students for high school and beyond, are also developed.
“Completing the reading curriculum is a significant accomplishment. I can’t tell you how proud I am of Tinu. She has worked so hard towards this goal and is the second youngest of only seven students who have completed the entire reading curriculum at the Center,” says Kumon of Perrysburg owner, Christine Cady.
“It was a lot of work, but now that I’m done, it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something special and important. It definitely has helped me in school with my reading. The Kumon curriculum goes in depth and helps me to actually understand what I’m reading.” says Tinu Afolabi. “Since I’ve gone through the entire reading program, this summer I’d like to volunteer to work with younger students at Kumon of Perrysburg as a way to give back.”
“Tinu is so bright and talented and loves to challenge herself. Accomplishing this amazing goal has given her a tremendous sense of accomplishment because she started from the beginning and has taken something all the way through,” says Tolani Afolabi, Tinu’s mother. “She’s always been a really good student, but the program pushed her out of her comfort zone and made her stretch a little more than what she’s used to.”
