The recent cold snap that has hit the UK has not put off donors of scrap cars.
Online PR News – 02-December-2010 – – The unusually cold weather hasn’t prevented people from donating scrap cars, despite the unfavourable conditions.
Chief Executive of Giveacar.co.uk Tom Chance said “this is a pleasant surprise for us. We were expecting a reduction in the number of donations due to the cold weather but this hasn’t been the case at all.”
Giveacar is a social enterprise which collects unwanted and unused cars for charity. Regardless of their condition, cars are collected free-of-charge nationwide by Giveacar and sold through an online auction, or disposed of at an authorised treatment facility.
Proceeds from the sale are donated to a charity of the car owner’s choice, or one of the Giveacar’s partner charities. These range from big name national charities to smaller local charities.
The concept mirrors one that is already popular in the United States and other countries – but which is still very much in its infancy in the UK.
With 85% by weight of each car being recycled and an average donation of £80 per vehicle, donating a car to Giveacar is both environmental and ethical.
Since January 2010 Giveacar has processed more than 1500 scrap vehicles ranging from Lorries to mopeds and even a Jet Ski!
