Huske Hardware House “Drafts” Award-winning Brewmaster

Mark Fesche brings a legacy of microbrewery excellence and experience to Historic Downtown Fayetteville’s only American brewpub

Online PR News – 02-December-2010 – – Huske Hardware House, Historic Downtown Fayetteville’s only beer brewery, welcomes Mark Fesche as its new brewmaster, effective immediately.

Fesche brings over 18 years of brewery experience to Huske Hardware. After completing a B.S. degree in interdisciplinary studies in 1991 at Towson University in Towson, Md., he started as a keg scrubber with Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Ore., gaining “…knowledge of all aspects of brewing production…,” and worked his way to shift brewer in a 50-barrel brewhouse, making over 25 batches a week. Fesche then earned a diploma in fermentation science from the Sieble Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill., and a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law before assuming the position of brewmaster at Twin Lakes Brewing Company in Greenville, Del. Prior to joining Huske Hardware, Fesche served as head brewer at Boylan Bridge Brewpub in Raleigh, N.C., and continues to provide brewery consultant services through Fesche Consulting, headquartered in Baltimore, Md.

"We are very pleased to bring a brewmaster of Mark's experience and talent on board, and believe this will launch Huske and Fayetteville even further as a competitor in the national and international brewing scene,” said Josh Collins, owner and manager of Huske Hardware House. “While his secondary degree in law is interesting, he has already earned the nickname inside Huske as, ‘The Barrister of Beer.’ Mark is a first-round draft choice."

Fesche is also excited about the new opportunities Huske Hardware House offers.

“It’s a larger brewery than the one I was working at in Raleigh,” Fesche said. “I look forward to making new brands of beer and bringing some new recipes and different beer styles, as well as continuing to make some of the house favorites. The first seasonal brew will be a winter warmer, a strong ale, one of my favorites to make.”

Fesche’s skills have earned medals for four of his brews, including Deschutes Brewery’s GABF Black Butte Porter, winner of a 1996 gold medal and over 20 national and international medals, most recently a bronze at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival. Three Boylan Bridge beers, Endless Sidetrack Summer Ale, Southbound Stout and Polar Bear Winter Beer, placed in the 2010 Carolina Craft Brewers Championship of Beer, earning two silvers and a bronze, respectively. In 2007, Fesche built the Rookie Brewery of the Year in Chambersburg, Penn., during Philadelphia Beer Week.

As soon as Collins met Fesche, he was confident Fesche was the right draft choice for the position of Huske Hardware House brewmaster.

“Mark’s a very down-to-earth, honest character,” said Collins. “He’s looking to practice what he loves over practicing something that might be more lucrative. Here’s someone who is true to himself, a testament to his character and to who he really is. For us, hiring Mark is just absolutely a huge step forward. We believe that Mark Fesche is going to take Huske Hardware House to the next level throughout North Carolina and then along the East Coast and hopefully beyond.”

Huske Hardware House is located at 405 Hay Street in Historic Downtown Fayetteville.
