Payal Pratap, hailing from a family of fashion designers, launched Umbar as her new prêt line which stays true and real to her sumptuous earthy aesthetic. Minimalistic, relaxed silhouettes featuring nostalgic cross-stitch designs paired with a splash of tranquil colours that lends a carefree, easygoing vibe to the entire collection.
The entire Umbar by Payal Pratap collection is now available on Ogaan. Indian as well as overseas customers can available services like world-wide shipping, made-to-order and alteration services.
Payal Pratap was part of the 1994 batch of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, alongside her husband, Rajesh Pratap, and renowned Indian designer, Manish Arora. In 1998, she joined Rajesh Pratap and worked for him in various capacities like Commercial Director, helping in commercialising the collections, merchandising, organising shows and communicating with clients. Payal Pratap wanted to branch out into her own label. She launched her eponymous label “Payal Pratap” in 2010. She first showcased her designs at the S/S Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2013.
Inspired by the Indian diaspora, Payal designs clothing for the modern urban Indian woman who is deeply rooted in the rich and vibrant traditions of our country. She draws inspiration from a plethora of sources like music by the Beatles and Pandit Ravi Shankar, films like Star wars and X-Men and books like the Lord of the Rings and Sherlock Holmes. Her collections features modern silhouettes like tea dresses, pencil skirts, embroidered white shirts and wrap dresses. Payal loves a good mix and match of colors, print on print and beautiful traditional embroidery on print which brings to life a new and unique style of clothing. Her clients include the likes of Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Kiran Rao.
