Wednesday, January 11th at 7 pm: ‘Shut Up and Write’ returns to Arlington Central Library with Young Adult author Jon Skovron in conversation with Fran Wilde, the Andre Norton Award winner for Science Fiction and Fantasy in Young Adult fiction for her novel 'Updraft.’ Local Young Adult authors Jon Skovron ('Hope and Red') and Jessica Spotswood ('Wild Swans') founded this bimonthly series of panels focused on the craft of writing. ‘Shut Up and Write’ is held at Arlington Central Library, 1015 North Quincy Street, Arlington, VA 22201.
Thursday, January 12th at 7 pm: One More Page welcomes local author Laura Ellen Scott (‘Death Wishing,’ ‘The Juliet’) to share from her new book ‘The Mean Bone in Her Body,’ the first in The New Royal Mysteries series. Laura Ellen Scott teaches creative writing at George Mason University in Fairfax Virginia.
Friday, January 13th at 7 pm: Former singer/songwriter Garine B. Isassi shares from her debut novel ‘Start with the Backbeat.’ Full of original lyrics and wit, ‘Start with the Backbeat’ is a compelling examination of the nuances of class, race, and culture in America―which are sometimes ridiculously serious.
Sunday, January 15th at 2 pm: One More Page hosts Writers Resist poetry reading with Arlington Poet Laureate Katherine Young, Gregory Luce, Jacqueline Jules, Holly Karapetkova, Naomi Thiers, Francisco Aragón, Susan Mockler, and other Arlington poets reading in support of democracy, free expression and inclusion.
Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30 pm: One More Page celebrates the launch of Mary G. Thompson’s new Young Adult fantasy novel ‘Flicker and Mist’ which weaves romance, intrigue and plenty of action into a rich and suspenseful narrative. Thompson will discuss the writing process, take audience questions and sign books.
Sunday, January 22nd at 3 pm: Cyndi Turner, a licensed clinical social worker and licensed substance abuse treatment practitioner, shares from her new book 'Can I Keep Drinking? How You Can Decide When Enough is Enough' focusing on the 90-million-plus people who struggle with alcohol in the United States.
Thursday, January 26th at 7 pm: Exotic animal veterinarian Dr. Laurie Hess discusses and signs ‘Unlikely Companions: The Adventures of an Exotic Animal Doctor (or, What Friends Feathered, Furred, and Scaled Have Taught Me about Life and Love)’ which follows a week in Dr. Hess’ life as she tries to uncover the source of an unknown ailment killing some of her most vulnerable patients.
