NHS celebrates Black nurses in the documentary

UK glorifies the struggle of the black nurses who came to save the country from the post-war demise and laid foundation for a strong NHS.

Online PR News – 20-December-2016 – Sheffield – London, 20 December 2016:

In an effort to eulogize the contribution of the Black nurses, who immigrated to the country still rising from the after effects of the war to build a strong foundation of the healthcare that is still unparalleled, NHS is coming up with a documentary BBC4. Amidst the all uproar created by the country's move to break the age old ties with the European block nations and the further added uncertainties by the referendum, the film will be a positive boost to the morale of the black nurses which come to the country from different parts of the world to build up a secure healthcare system in the country.

Documentary which tells the story of the thousands of Caribbean and African women who answered the call 70 years ago to come to the UK to save the then ailing health service. This intelligent film, part of the BBC’s Black and British season, recounted how 40,000 nurses and midwives from around the Commonwealth answered the call from “the Mother Country” to help build Nye Bevan’s nascent National Health Service, which was suffering a staffing crisis.

This would be a story of commitment and courage in the face of adversity, engagingly told via archive newsreel and intimate interviews. Avoiding heavy-handed narration, it let the women tell their own stories, meaning it felt personal rather than didactically political. The documentary would feature many senior office bearers who started their careers from the scratch in the NHS and achieved excellence through commitment and persistence. The NHS has always been quite eloquent when it comes at praising the contribution of the immigrant nurses, the act which has garnered quite a media attention following the axe Brexit threw on their future ties with the associations challenging the profession of many employed in the British healthcare.
