FanFaire Foundation's holiday Messiah Sing-along concert launches community outreach program and gives audience unique opportunity to experience making music with full orchestra and winners of Inaugural Soloists' Competition
Online PR News – 18-November-2010 – – FanFaire Foundation, a San Diego County-based nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public appreciation of music and science, will usher in the holiday season with a Sing-Along concert of Handel's popular oratorio "Messiah."
The Sing-Along Concert will will be held at the acoustically superb Neurosciences Institute Auditorium in La Jolla, CA on Friday December 3 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature the Greater San Diego Community Orchestra directed by Dr. Angela Yeung, the Foundation’s recently appointed Ambassador for Community Outreach, using Mozart’s orchestration which augmented the original instrumentation from 2 oboes, one bassoon, 2 trumpets, timpani, strings and basso continuo to pairs of flutes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, and trumpets, three trombones, timpani, and strings.
The solo arias will be sung by the winners of the recently held Inaugural Soloists Competition led by soprano Cindy Choi who won the $500 Grand Prize for Best Soloist. The other winners include Ruth Kiefer, Kara Masek, Vincent Martin and Eric Van Heyningen.
The event formally launches the organization's Community Outreach Program which is designed in part to bring throughout the year varieties of life-enriching musical experiences to people of all ages in San Diego County, and to encourage significant community involvement such as that exemplified by the Messiah Sing-Along Concert and the search for concert soloists through a competition open to all interested members of the community.
Being a sing-along, this concert will be unlike others in that the conductor will be facing the audience at all times. Dr. Yeung will be conducting both audience and orchestra members, some of whom (strings) will be on stage while others (winds) will be positioned at various locations in the hall. It will be a different, life-enriching, and fun event.
Audience members may bring their own score or rent one at the door. Tickets, priced at $10, may be purchased online (http://fanfairefoundation.org/tickets.html) or at the door (cash only) one hour before performance.
