For 2011, the state is expected to generate more than RM51 million through 41 new conventions.
‚ÄúSarawak is definitely ready to take on the world with its brand new state-of-the-art Convention Centre and new meeting hotels, supported by a fantastic range of great eco-tourism products,‚ÄĚ said Chairman of the Sarawak Convention Bureau Dato‚Äô Sri Dr. Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah after unveiling the theme for the ‚ÄėAnak Sarawak Award 2010‚Äô today.
He added that Sarawak has achieved a remarkable early success in the multi-billion dollar global meetings industry which is a key marketing priority for this east Malaysian state.
Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Convention Bureau Jill Henry who was also present at the launch said Sarawak will be hosting a wide array of international conventions for 2011. Among the events lined up included the 2nd World Biodiversity Congress, 5th International Congress of Chemistry & Environment, ASEAN Australian Engineering Congress, Asia Infrastructure Expo & Conference and The Borneo International Culinary & Hospitality Week.
‚ÄúSarawak Convention Bureau achieved a remarkable success with an impressive strike rate of 80 percent. These conventions are expected to bring in 25,110 delegates to Sarawak with a total of 90,575 room nights which will generate RM51, 893,196 million in delegate expenditure,‚ÄĚ she added.
The fourth ‚ÄėAnak Sarawak Award 2010‚Äô themed Night of the Pharaohs ‚Äď Victory Feast is scheduled to be held on November 26 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). The prestigious awards ceremony, said Jill, will honour those who have successfully bid for new national and international conventions.
"We want to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of these individuals who have contributed significantly to the growth of business events in Sarawak and subsequently placing Malaysia as a strong player in Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.‚ÄĚ
"With this recognition, I hope that it will escalate Sarawak's profile as an emerging international meeting destination and increase the number of successful bids," added Jill.
