BrightStar Care consists of 150+ franchises that provide homecare to anyone who needs it, from children to seniors, and medical staffing solutions to individuals, families and organizations nationwide.
Online PR News – 10-November-2010 – – Dr. Daron Merryman, a physician from Jonesboro, is the latest entrant into an expanding pool of personal care service providers in Memphis. Merryman and his wife, Tyna, opened BrightStar at 6300 Poplar Ave.
Merryman has bought the franchise rights to BrightStar in Shelby, Tipton and Fayette counties. Chicago-based BrightStar is a full-service health care staffing agency that provides medical and non-medical home care, as well as staffing for hospitals and nursing homes.
BrightStar Memphis homecare providers, Dr. Daron and Tyna Merryman, have taken a team approach to serving those in need in their community. As a physician, Daron realized there was a huge need to fill in providing care to people of all ages and, specifically, in providing senior home care to help the elderly in the Memphis area maintain their independence whenever possible.
"When I was in my geriatric fellowship, that was the crux of everything," Merryman said. "What seniors told us overwhelmingly, what they wanted more than anything, was to protect their independence. What they feared the most was the loss of that independence."
BrightStar, which was founded as a family business in 2002, now has more than 130 locations across the nation. The magazine Franchise Times put Shelly Sun, founder and chief executive officer of BrightStar, in the No. 2 slot of its “20 to Watch” list for 2009.
“With BrightStar, I could add value to the business model and not create the business model, because creating the business model is what held me out of it for four years,” Merryman said.
As a physician, he recognized the need for a high-quality personal care service provider and the possibility for business growth, but he also knew the limitations of his business background.
Merryman said having the rights to local BrightStar franchises gives him plenty of room for growth. “By the time the market really hits, I want to make sure that we are in a position where our brand awareness from a business perspective is what we want it to be,” Merryman said.
“What seniors told us overwhelmingly, what they wanted more than anything, was to protect their independence. What they feared the most was the loss of that independence. Thankfully, the state understands that very well.”
