The Langkawi area will see the annual IODA World Sailing Championships between the 28th of December 2010 and the 8th of January 2011
Online PR News – 10-November-2010 – – The Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA), in conjunction with the Ministry of Sport and the local authority in Langkawi, hosts the event, which is aimed at providing young sailors with a great competitive event.
Many countries come from all over the world to compete in the various events that are organised including individual competitions and team championships.
There are expected to be 227 sailors attending the IODA World Sailing Championships from 52 countries across the world including strong representation from a number of European countries, the United States, Australia and New Zealand and a particularly good representation from fellow Asian countries including India, Korea, Myanmar and Singapore along with Thailand and Malaysia.
The races on the island of Langkawi are all run from the beautiful surroundings of Kuah Harbour of Langkawi and all shore events will be hosted at the excellent facilities of the National Sailing Centre. The tropical climate, sunny weather and average 32 degree temperatures provide a perfect place to visit in the middle of the winter.
Tourism is an important part of the islands economy and visitors will have no problem finding cheap Langkawi hotels at which to stay while watching or competing in the IODA World Sailing Championships. During events the surrounding countryside offers guests plenty of choice for sight-seeing, from the rainforests and gorgeous beaches to local wildlife.
