Local Real Estate Agent Selected as 2016 EverGreen Award Winner

A REALTOR® member of the Orange County Association of REALTORS® (OCAR) has been selected to receive the 2016 EverGreen Award

Online PR News – 04-November-2016 – LAGUNA HILLS, CA – Jan Shomaker, a REALTOR® member of the Orange County Association of REALTORS® (OCAR) and broker/owner of SPS Realty, has been selected from a distinguished pool of nominees to receive the 2016 EverGreen Award given by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Green REsource Council.

REALTOR® Jan Shomaker was nominated for this annual award based on her commitments to the green real estate industry, as well as her work within the community to drive sustainability, and was selected for the 2016 EverGreen Award by an independent panel of green industry professionals.

“It’s so wonderful to see how NAR Green Designees are having such a positive impact on their local markets. Jan has been an outstanding leader in the real estate community, and the Green REsource Council is very proud to be working with such top-notch professionals,” said Amanda Stinton, NAR’s director of sustainability and NAR’s Green Designation program.

Shomaker’s achievements include forming the OCAR Green Committee in 2009 and remodeling two homes to “go green.” Several years ago, Jan and her husband Allen purchased a gently used hillside home in Mission Viejo and completely remodeled it with sustainable materials and energy-efficient appliances, for which the City of Mission Viejo gave them a Green Home Award certificate.

Jan and Allen have opened their Mission Viejo home as a city-sponsored “open house,” for Build It Green workshops, and for the filming of energy upgrade commercials. Their successful efforts to make the yard and garden self-sustaining were recognized earlier this year, when they were interviewed by Gnorman the Garden Gnome as a part of the Orange County Stormwater Quality’s “Overwatering Is Out” campaign.

Jan has received a Greenpoint rating from Build It Green for both her Mission Viejo home and a home she remodeled in Long Beach. In addition, she serves on the statewide Green Real Estate Working Group, whose members include statewide utilities and 16 other entities that are working to standardize green descriptions and entries across Multiple Listing Services.

Orange County REALTOR® Jan Shomaker and other winners of the 2016 EverGreen Award will be formally recognized at the REALTORS® Conference & Expo in November.
