Edmonton Businessman Jesse Willms is spending a day building a house for Habitat for Humanity.
Online PR News – 09-November-2010 – – Edmonton, Alberta - Internet entrepreneur and budding philanthropist Jesse Willms and his employees will spend a day in late November helping the Edmonton branch of Habitat For Humanity build homes for the homeless.
“I am completely dedicated to helping the global and local community,” Willms said. “Providing people with affordable housing is an essential part of breaking the cycle of poverty, and I am happy to help in any way I can.”
Habitat For Humanity is a global organization that operates independent local branches around the world. They have two goals – to bring people who are currently renting into the world of home ownership so they can build up equity and enter the middle class, and to help people who are homeless get a roof over their heads. Habitat For Humanity International was founded in 1976. Habitat For Humanity Canada was founded in 1985 and the Edmonton Branch was started in 1991.
Since its inception Habitat For Humanity Edmonton has helped build more than 130 homes for people who would otherwise not be able to afford them.
“When people are paying rent every month they never build up their assets,” Willms said. “But, if you build them a home, and they spend the same or less money each month on an affordable mortgage, you are helping put their money to work for them to build a better future.”
Jesse Willms said he believes that helping Habitat For Humanity now is more important than it has ever been.
“Rent in Alberta is high right now and are eating up more and more of the income of our hardworking residents,” Willms said. “Meanwhile, banks are less willing than ever to provide loans to build homes because of the global financial crisis. Someone has to step in and help people experience the pride and investment of home ownership.”
Jesse Willms is a noted member of the Edmonton business community. He started his first business in his parents’ basement when he was 16 years old. He has since built this company into a successful story.
Last summer, he was then inspired by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to start using his money and influence to support charities that help make the community a better place for everyone involved.
“I worked hard to get where I am today,” Jesse Willms said. “Now, I want to work even harder to help others live a better life and have the chance at a better future.”
