The evening will be a CD release party for Birdy as they present their newest CD, "Journey Home."
Lillli Kuzma, host of WDCB Radio's FOLK FESTIVAL program, says of Birdy's CD,
"Wow! I have heard - and aired - a lot of covers of this great traditional song [Poor Wayfaring Stranger], but yours is truly special. I expected the beautiful Birdy harmony, but was surprised by the overall arrangement - loved Meg's djembe!"
BIRDY is comprised of Bianca Wesolowski Bevard (vocals) and Sharon Brunot Speziale (vocals/guitar), both originally from the La Grange area, and Chicago-based percussionist, Megan Thomas. The Pickin' Bubs is comprised of Chicago-based musicians and Old Town School of Folk Music instructors Maura Lally, Peggy Browning and Mark "Louie" Mitchell. A portion of the proceeds from the October 24th concert will support the St. Cletus Food Pantry in La Grange. The public is invited to bring donations of non-perishable food items to the concert.
Someplace Else Concerts begins their 7th season this year at the Highlands Presbyterian Church venue in La Grange. Other concerts this season will feature a family holiday concert with MARK DVORAK (Dec. 6), folk duo McNAMARA & NEELEY on Saturday, February 27, 2010, GREG BOERNER on Saturday March 27, 2010, and LEE MURDOCK on Saturday May 1, 2010. La Grange resident, Clarence Goodman will open for McNamara & Neeley, and the acoustic duo of JR Wydra and Geoff Brown of the band The Hudson Landing, will open for Greg Boerner.
The October 24th concert begins at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7:00pm. Admission is $12 for adults and there are discounts for students of all ages. Kids in 8th grade and younger attend the concerts free of charge. HIGHLANDS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH is located at 1902 W. 59th Street, La Grange, IL.
