Rishikul Yogshala recently celebrated the festival of Dusshera, the last day of Navratri, with great pomp and show.
Online PR News – 15-October-2016 – Rishikesh, India, October 2016 – Rishikul Yogshala, one of the top most yoga and meditation schools in the country and one of the few lucky ones to have a Yoga Alliance certification, recently celebrated the festival of Dusshera within the school premises. The school commemorated this day with an improvised Ramleela followed by fireworks and burning the effigy of Ravana (the ten-headed demon), hence marking the victory of good over evil.
Dusshera, one of the most important festivals in India, is celebrated throughout the country in various forms. The festival is also known as Vijaya Dashami since it marks the day Mother Goddess put an end to the torments of Mahishasura (the buffalo headed demon). As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that Mahishasura wanted to destroy the whole clan of Devas and was almost successful at it when Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara (Shiva) decided to come together and create the form of Mother Goddess known as Goddess Durga or Shakti to slay the demon. In both concepts, the day symbolizes triumph of good over evil, devas over asuras, and is a great chance for everybody to let go of their negativities and inner demons.
The ceremony at Rishikul Yogshala began in the evening when the teachers, managements, and some of the former students appeared dressed in costumes signifying characters from the Ramayana – the mythological account of the war between Lord Rama and Ravana. Surprisingly, there was no script and the whole play was improvised. Nonetheless, it was very lighthearted and had several fun moments. The students laughed and clapped frantically and enjoyed the narration made by Yogi Prashant Ji, the school’s in-house Hatha master.
Rishikul Yogshala is famed as the most positively reviewed yoga school in the country and for obvious reasons. Along with its practices and teachings of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga, yoga philosophy and anatomy, pranayama, yoga ethics and science, meditation, cleansing techniques, adjustment and alignment, teaching methodology, and yoga nidra amongst other subjects, the school also dedicates time in extracurricular activities like these so the students can learn more about Indian culture.
The school recently announced its upcoming 200, 300, and 500 hour Yoga Teacher training batches in Kerala in December, January, and February. The course plan combines the study of yoga and meditation along with basics of Ayurveda, all of which are taught by some of the most renowned and learned gurus of traditional Indian yoga and Ayurveda.
