Drs. Lieberman & Parikh will host a fundraising gala on Oct. 20th at the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park benefiting victims of domestic violence.
Online PR News – 05-October-2016 – October 4, 2016 Palo Alto, CA – Since early in 2016, dual-board certified facial plastic surgeons Drs. Lieberman & Parikh have been providing free facial surgeries to clients of Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence for injuries sustained through domestic abuse, but the doctors are now taking their partnership with the nonprofit one step further by hosting a fundraising gala to raise money for NDS and awareness about domestic violence.
The festive event, (Mis) Perceptions of Beauty in Art and Aesthetics, will be held on October 20th at the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park from 6-9pm. It will feature a conversation on the historical concepts of beauty by Drs. Lieberman and Parikh along with Stanford University artist and researcher, So-Rim Lee, as well as a silent auction, food and an open bar. They plan to sell out but tickets priced at $100.00 can still be purchased by calling the practice at (650) 327-3232. All proceeds will go towards helping victims at Next Door Solutions.
Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence, a Santa Clara-based nonprofit dedicated to eradicating domestic violence, serves about 1300 women each year who face obstacles affecting every part of their lives - financial, emotional, housing, custody, to name a few - when trying to leave a violent domestic situation.rnrn“Being able to give back to the community is very important us,” said Dr. Parikh.
“We have a unique opportunity to remove physical scars or sequelae from abuse, but we know victims need a lot of support to become self sufficient which is why we want to raise money for the important work of Next Door Solutions."
Recently Dorothy Mitchell, a woman from Oakland, whose ex-fiance slammed her head against a brick wall which left a deep scar on her forehead, was able to escape her attacker, find support and receive a scar removal surgery from Drs. Lieberman & Parikh.
“I don’t trust any men, and I was really scared coming to these doctors,” Mitchell said. “But Dr. Lieberman made me feel important. He treated me like a human being, and now that the scar of what my ex did to me is gone, I feel free. I can start fresh.”rnrnDr. Lieberman says that while removing a scar for someone may seem like a little thing, what he and Dr. Parikh have found is that scar removal brings up a lot of emotions for victims and helps them move on from the trauma.
The doctors will continue to provide free facial reconstructive surgeries to any victims of domestic abuse, but they hope that through the fundraiser, “(Mis) Perceptions of Beauty”, they will help Next Door Solutions pay for emergency hotel stays, therapy sessions, additional daycare and other services necessary for domestic violence survivors to start a new life.
So far, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh have been overwhelmed by the support of their patients and community who have written checks and donated items for the silent auction. One of the most valuable silent auction items will be a limited edition Allstate Foundation Purple Purse designed by the actress Kerry Washington through the #FreeToWalk campaign.
Drs. Lieberman and Parikh hope that with “(Mis) Perceptions of Beauty” they will raise between 10-15K for Next Door Solutions and even more awareness about the services available for people in an abusive situation.
“The very first time you get hurt, you need to reach out and get help,” Mitchell would say to anyone in a harmful relationship. “There are a lot of places out there and you should know you are not alone. A lot of women think they have to stay, but they don’t.”
