High School Counselor Receives Award for Dedication to Students

Mary Krisko of Peyton High School is September’s Counselor of the Month

Online PR News – 29-September-2009 – – CollegeInvest, in partnership with the Colorado Council on High School/College Relations, is proud to honor Mary Krisko of Peyton High School as September’s Counselor of the Month.

Krisko was nominated by her colleague Katie Parker. Parker emphasizes the amount of dedication and resources Krisko has for her students and the great college atmosphere she has created in her office.

“Her strength is her relationship building with the students…all of them. At Pikes Peak Community College, many of Mary’s students applied for an early college vocational program (AVP) and the application process is a first come, first served event. Mary stood in line for over an hour with student’s completed applications before 8 a.m. to ensure that her students got into their programs of choice,” Parker writes.

Parker goes on to talk about Krisko’s strength at keeping fellow colleagues morale up during these tough economic times their school is facing.

The Counselor of the Month program is designed to give counselors the recognition they deserve. Each month starting in September and running through May, a counselor is selected for this award. Students, parents and colleagues can nominate a counselor at anytime throughout the school year.

“High school counselors are unsung heroes, encouraging students to dream and accomplish their goals,” said Misti Ruthven of CollegeInvest. “Counselors often go unrecognized as champions for students to go on to bigger and better things and follow their dreams.”
