San Jose fire Protection Company releases tip sheet on maintaining restaurant fire safety equipment.

Online PR News – 13-October-2010 – – SAN JOSE, LOS ANGELES AND PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA— San Francisco’s recent pipeline explosion has prompted Nationwide fire protection Corp., a Placentia and San Jose fire protection company, to create a tip sheet on regular maintenance for restaurant fire safety equipment.

Much can be avoided in the event of a fire if the fire system functions properly, and maintenance and inspections play an integral role in ensuring that, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., a San Jose fire sprinkler system installation and maintenance company.

In the Sept. 9 explosion, a natural gas line took lives and damaged property, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“This explosion could have happened in a retail or business district,” Farazandeh said. “These establishments must have fire suppression systems unless they have been grandfathered in.”

Although many restaurants have fire suppression systems, some fail to properly maintain them. That means they may not work in a disaster.

“You need confidence that your fire suppression system is functional,” said San Jose fire suppression system (http://www.prlog.org/10491352-los-angeles-fire-protection-company-lists-top-five-restaurant-fire-hazards.html) expert.

Twice-annual inspections should include the following tasks:
• Ensure proper functioning of gas automatic shut-off valve.
• Trip the system from the pull station.
• Trip the fire system from the terminal link.
• Confirm the cable for the fusible links, brackets, CO2 cartridges, mechanical head and other parts of the fire system are in good condition.
• Inspect ducts and plenum for grease buildup.
• Ensure nozzles provide proper coverage over kitchen equipment.
• Ensure nozzles are properly capped.
• Ensure the pull pin and the seal are replaced properly and the system is tagged.
