HGOR Founder, Principal Receives Highest Award from UGA CED Alumni Association

Bob Hughes Honored with the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Medal

Online PR News – 03-May-2016 – ATLANTA, GA – After spending nearly four decades designing and planning some of Atlanta and the Southeast’s most iconic places, HGOR Founder and Principal Bob Hughes received the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Medal from the University of Georgia College of Environment and Design Alumni Association (CEDAA) April 15 at UGA’s CED in Athens, Georgia.

Bob graduated from UGA’s CED in 1977 and has since played an integral role in creating active, award-winning spaces at some of the nation’s most revered institutions including UGA, Georgia Institute of Technology and Clemson University since founding Atlanta-based HGOR in 1992. He’s also designed vibrant headquarters for the Coca-Cola Companies, Cox Communications, Turner Entertainment and other corporations.

“We are all so proud to see Bob honored. He unselfishly gives his heart and soul into every project he touches and generously passes on his years of wisdom to the entire HGOR family,” said HGOR Principal Steve Sanchez. “Having worked with Bob for over 30 years, I can confidently confirm this award is long overdue.”

In addition to his work at HGOR, he’s deeply invested in a variety of civic organizations to advance the built environment and improve the quality of life for spaces’ visitors and residents. He’s involved with the Piedmont Park Conversancy, Urban Land Institute’s Livable Community Council and Livable Buckhead.

He also has given back to UGA in nearly every facet from lecturer to sponsor to graduation speaker. He’s a former president of the School of the Environment + Design Alumni Association, established a professorship within the CED and has been a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council. Alongside HGOR, he also created the HGOR/Richard David Lecture Fund in 2001, which provides support for panel discussions, workshops, conferences and within with the CED.

“Without the support of my family at home, my HGOR family and my UGA family – my three families – I would have never made it this far,” Bob said at the event.

The UGA CED Honors Celebration also included the CEDAA Distinguished Faculty Award, Dean’s Award of Honor, Dean’s Award for Teaching Innovation, Dean’s Staff award and student scholarships and honors.
