South Florida Plastic Surgeon Dr. Christopher Brooks is Named H.E.R.O. of the Year

Dr. Christopher Brooks was recently named Memorial Regional Hospital's Healthcare Employees Reaching Out (H.E.R.O.) of the Year

Online PR News – 26-April-2016 – Miami, FL – Dr. Christopher Brooks, MD FACS, Director of Brooks Plastic Surgery and Vice Chief of Plastic Surgery at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, was recently named Memorial Regional Hospital’s Healthcare Employees Reaching Out (H.E.R.O.) of the Year.

The award, given annually to one of the hospital’s H.E.R.O. of the Day recipients, applauds the volunteer spirit and contributions hospital employees have made to the community. Dr. Brooks, who trained in Craniofacial Surgery and Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, travels abroad quarterly with two different organizations to perform cleft palate and lip surgeries for underserved children. A global volunteer for the past 10 years, Dr. Brooks serves as Director of Interplast South, a subgroup of the organization who, in partnership with the Ruth Paz Foundation, has been making mission trips since 1969. He also travels to Central America yearly with the Global Smile Foundation, spending forty days each year doing mission work.

“The families I have had the opportunity to work with are extremely gracious and grateful for the help we provide,” said Dr. Brooks. “Having said that, I believe that as providers, we get as much – if not more – out of it as the families do.”

While Dr. Brooks enjoys helping patients in his local community, he also focuses much of his time on finding ways to impact and change lives on a more global level. His services to the children of Central America are donated by him and his practice, and he looks forward to many more trips to countries where his services are needed.
