Online PR News – 22-September-2009 – – This September, travelers to Key West and the Florida Keys will be able to take advantage of National Park Fee Free Day one more time before the end of the year. On September 26th, guests taking the Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson ferries will be able to enter the Dry Tortugas National Park at no cost.
The National Park Fee Free Day was a project that was put into effect this summer to encourage and promote travel and tourism to some of the nation's great parks. One day a month, from June through August, visitors were welcomed into over 100 national parks, including the Dry Tortugas, completely free. As the year comes to a close, travelers will be able to take advantage of this great offer one more time.
"People traveling in today's economic environment definitely appreciate a deal on their trips whenever possible," claims Leslie Long, the office manager at the Dry Tortugas Info center in Key West. "The Fee Free days were a big hit in the summer so we are definitely excited that the Dry tortugas National Park is offering this great deal during the fall."
Located 70 miles off the coast of Key West Florida and completely surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico, the Dry Tortugas National Park is considered one of the country's most unique national parks. Travelers and national park enthusiasts make the two hour journey to the park to experience the excellent Key West snorkeling found on the islands, to see the thousands of migratory bird species that make their home on the islands, and to get a feel for what it is like to stand on such remote tropical islands.
The Dry Tortugas National Park also has the distinction of being an important part of United States history with the Civil War-era brick fort, Fort Jefferson, located on Garden Key. The Dry Tortugas Information Center provides travelers to Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas with a 45-minute tour of the fort during which guests learn about teh unique role Fort Jefferson and the Tortugas had during the 19th and 20th centuries.
