Stewart Milne Homes North Scotland has joined forces with specialist charity, Support Our Soldiers, in its drive to support members of the British Armed Forces currently serving overseas.
Online PR News – 08-October-2010 – – The housebuilder is donating 100 care packages in time for Christmas, which are carefully designed to provide home comforts and morale boosts to service men and women on the frontline. The most popular requests from the troops include miniature toiletries, magazines, condiments and spicy crisps, whilst Scotland’s forces are renowned for requests of smoked sausages!
Previous Falklands paratrooper and full time paramedic, Bob Campbell, now volunteers as the North East area coordinator for Support Our Soldiers, and knows how these little things can make such a difference.
“It can be difficult to comprehend how much our servicemen and women can miss everyday basics like shower gel, snacks, basic condiments and useful items like pens and pencils. It is so important to let these troops know that they are in our thoughts, and the personal touch of these care packages is ideal.
“The care packages help convey the support and goodwill of the public and, when coming from people other than the soldiers’ families, provide a huge boost to morale.”
Commenting on the donation, sales director of Stewart Milne Homes North, Mike Cowie, said:
“Our King’s Gate development in Arbroath is home to one of the UK’s largest Royal Marine bases in the UK, and we are always keen to contribute to the communities in which we operate. Teaming up with Support Our Soldiers presented the ideal opportunity to do so this and support a cause close to so many hearts within the company, particularly those with friends and family currently serving overseas. The Stewart Milne Homes North Scotland team has pulled together to individually hand write a message for each box and add a personal touch to our deliveries.
“We hope our packages help brighten the day of a few extra troops and give them a much needed boost during their time on the frontline.”
Founded in 2003, Support Our Soldiers now comprises a UK-wide team and has issued over 70,000 care parcels to members of the British Armed Forces serving on the frontline. The charity works closely with medical teams in Afghanistan and the UK to provide much needed support for those injured, whilst offering counsel to families of service men and women.
