TMI students named National Merit semifinalists

Luke Matus and Spencer Romo scored in the top one-half percent among the 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last year.

Online PR News – 04-October-2010 – – Two seniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas have been recognized as semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship competition.

Luke Matus and Spencer Romo scored in the top one-half percent among the 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last year. As semifinalists, they are eligible to submit applications demonstrating their leadership in school and community activities to qualify as finalists for, National Merit Scholarship awards, to be announced from April through June 2011.

At TMI, Matus is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society and is a linebacker on the varsity football team. Romo, also a member of the National Honor Society, is a company commander in the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets and sings with the Upbeats a cappella group.

Based in Evanston, Ill., the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is a nonprofit organization established in 1955 to conduct the National Merit Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC and by business organizations and institutions of higher education.
