Dallas Oral Surgeon, John Wallace, D.D.S., M.D., provides free facial cleft surgery and medical care in Bangladesh.
Online PR News – 19-November-2015 – Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas – John Wallace, D.D.S., M.D., a Dallas oral surgeon and co-owner of Dallas Oral Surgery Associates, recently returned from a trip to Bangladesh in connection with the New Jersey-based non-profit organization Smile Bangladesh. During the organization’s mission trip, Dr. Wallace provided free medical care and performed free surgeries for children and adults in Bangladesh affected by facial cleft deformities.
Smile Bangladesh is a non-profit organization with a mission to help some of the approximately 300,000 people in Bangladesh who live with unrepaired facial cleft deformities, such as cleft lips and cleft palates. It is estimated that there are less than 30 surgeons in the country who are trained to perform cleft surgery and many people who have cleft deformities in Bangladesh do not have the deformities repaired due to a lack of access to care. With many living in rural areas, not having the resources to afford the surgery or not even knowing that the deformity can easily be repaired, thousands of cleft deformities would otherwise go untreated if not for the dental and medical volunteers who offer their services in conjunction with Smile Bangladesh mission trips.
Dr. John Wallace is an experienced oral surgeon in Dallas who has volunteered his time and contributed his medical expertise to this worthwhile cause on three occasions. His first mission trip to Bangladesh occurred in 2012, and after seeing the difference he could make by sharing his medical and dental expertise and training with those in need, the Dallas oral surgery professional returned in 2014 and again this past month.
“It’s so rewarding to know that you can essentially change a person’s entire life just by contributing your expertise and volunteering your time for a good cause,” explains Dr. Wallace. “Cleft surgery takes just about an hour to complete and can drastically impact a person’s quality of life. To be able to help people halfway around the world that would never have access to such a simple but otherwise out-of-reach solution brings a smile to my face.”
Although the primary focus of Dr. Wallace’s efforts in Bangladesh are in connection with the treatment of facial cleft deformities, back at home, the Dallas oral surgeon provides a number of other maxillofacial and oral surgery treatments that are commonly sought by individuals living in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area. This includes procedures such as implant dentistry and implant-supported dentures, wisdom teeth removal, jaw surgery and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Wallace’s practice, Dallas Oral Surgery Associates, offers two convenient locations, one in Dallas and one in Plano, and provides oral surgery care in a patient-friendly environment.
Dr. John Wallace is a Dallas oral surgeon and is co-owner of the Dallas Oral Surgery Associates.
