The 62nd Manila FAME: Upholding Philippine Ingenuity in Design and Craftsmanship

Online PR News – 09-October-2015 – Pasay City, Philippines – This October, design professionals and enthusiasts will once again gather at the Asia-Pacific region’s trendsetting event for home and fashion merchandise – Manila FAME.

Inspirational and curatorial, Manila FAME will unveil eclectic and immersive show features that exhibit the season’s new innovative creations conceived through special platforms that develop products, communities, businesses, and entrepreneurs.

Influenced by the neo-baroque style, The Manila Gusto Gallery: In Pursuit of Pleasure is a curated presentation of dinnerware, home accents, holiday décor, and artisanal food products manufactured by 21 Philippine companies. Under the supervision of German product consultant and designer Detlef Klatt, the lavish and exuberant collection promises to seduce the senses with its fanciful mystery veiled by the intricate combination of modern and classic design.

In celebration of the United Nations’ proclamation of 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, Manila FAME will present Light and Shadow -- a dramatic, one-of-a-kind lighting installation conceptualized and developed to promote the country’s unique interpretation of light and to inspire both seasoned and young designers.

For this edition, HYBRID, an art and design group composed of Jinggoy Buensuceso, Wataru Sakuma, and Stanley Ruiz crafted Aurora: A Light Imprint, features a playful 3D imprint mid-air that mimics the colors of the Aurora Borealis.

Manila Wear will put the spotlight on a fresh and compelling collection of fashion apparel and accessories crafted from indigenous materials by the country’s elite designers and emerging talents in collaboration with well-known Philippine clothing brands. The Manila Wear branding initiative by CITEM places the Philippine fashion industry at par with its international counterparts.

Red Box, CITEM’s program dedicated to nurturing aspiring designers, will put forward a vivid and raw display of lighting, furniture, and fashion show pieces created by emerging artists through a series of in-depth workshops, exposure to the country’s key crafts, product development collaborations with local manufacturers, and trade fair showcase, all under the mentorship of the country’s notable names in the design industry.

For the 62nd edition of Manila FAME, Red Box Junior Designers Rachelle Dagñalan, Lilianna Manahan, and Joseph Rastrullo will reveal the latest showpieces from their design studios.

Manila FAME partners with Yabang Pinoy, an award-winning organization of brands that upholds the nation’s identity, pride, and excellence by encouraging locals to support Philippine ideas, products, and services. Yabang Pinoy will present a wide-ranging and topnotch collection of fashion, lifestyle, and food products created by local manufacturers.

Featuring the arts and crafts of Albay, Cagayan Valley, Laguna, Davao Region, and the natural fibers of the Philippines, the Artisan Village upholds the significance of the genius loci of each community, town, or city -- the moving spirit behind the country's skilled artisans and master craftsmen whose hands work with exceptional ease and expertise in weaving, wood carving, metal forging, marquetry, and in so many other forms of traditional crafts.

The Artisan Village essays the quest for craft promotion and revivalism to inspire local government units to embrace the concept and thereby establish centers of craft excellence in their communities.

NeoTextiles Philippines showcases new fabrics that marry the age-old weaving tradition of ethnic communities with modern and innovative 21st century techniques. Created through CITEM’s Material Development Program, the brandNeoTextiles Philippines aims to develop and promote locally-made textiles that can compete with the global market.

The One Town, One Product (OTOP) Marketplace will present the latest products created by handpicked micro, small, and medium enterprises from regions all over the Philippines. Accentuating on tradition and craftsmanship, the OTOP Program of the Bureau of Domestic Trade (BDT) of DTI is a priority project of the government to promote entrepreneurship and generate livelihood among local craftsman and small communities.

The International Hall brings to Manila FAME companies from India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, and Taiwan, carrying high quality fashion items, furniture and furnishings, home décor, gifts, and premiums.

Engaging and provocative, the Art Block showcases novel, avant-garde creations and contemporary art handpicked from the progressive galleries in the Philippines. Art Block propels local artists to the international scene.

Manila FAME will host the Katha Awards which recognizes Philippine creativity in design and fashion, and aims to inspire both designers and exporters to raise the standards of the country’s export merchandise through diligent research on materials and manufacturing processes and product development.
