Online PR News – 22-September-2010 – – Say Dance Collective: Auditions 2010
September 26, 2010 -- 1:30-3:30 PM
At the Kathryn Barnett School of Dance
37 E. Front St, Red Bank, NJ 07701

Autumn 2010 marks the first year anniversary of the Say Dance Collective, a contemporary dance company conceived to encourage a collaborative experience across the spectrum of the arts. Part of our mission is to make dance emotive, affective, and accessible to all audiences. With this intent, we want to give opportunities to young and adventurous performers and artists, to create those emotional stories or to give new perspectives on familiar themes from a new generation.

It’s about performance, art, life, and joys, and taking a fantastic artistic journey.

In our first year, we've performed to benefit AIDS research, had our first full-length evening performance with art gallery and reception, and collaborated with the Pacific Opera, culminating in a performance at Carnegie Hall. This year will include more interdisciplinary work with the Pacific Opera as well as with local musicians, photographers, and artists; another evening production, dates TBA; outreach and benefit performances; and choreographic collaboration.

The audition will consist of a medley of contemporary, modern, and lyrical dance, with emphasis on clean lines, detail, and classical technique.

Hope to see you there!

Gabrielle Barnett, Artistic Director

Say Dance Collective is a contemporary dance company conceived to give young, adventurous artists an opportunity to create, perform, and grow within their arts while evoking an emotional response and engaging the audience at every performance. Its primary mission is to encourage a cooperative and collaborative creative experience between artists and to expose both dancers and the local communities to varied disciplines of dance.

To be a choreographer, you have to have something to say; to not try too hard, and to want to express something. The concept of dance as a form of communication is the principle that inspired the Say Dance Collective -- to always say something, no matter how infinitesimal the message.. It’s about performance, yes; but it’s about art, and life, and joys, and teaching and learning and just getting caught up in the entirety of it all and letting it take you on a fantastic journey.
