Metals Fabrication Co., longtime FabTrol MRP user, hosts a Steel Day 2010 event featuring its state-of-the-art technology
Online PR News – 15-September-2010 – – Metals Fabrication Co., a structural steel fabricator serving the western United States, is hosting an educational Steel Day event from 9 am to 2 pm September 24th, 2010. Steel Day 2010 is a steel-industry educational and networking event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) to help people learn about how the structural steel industry contributes to building America.
Attendees at the Metals Fabrication event will tour the company’s 104,000 square foot fabrication facility in Spokane, Washington, where they will see state-of-the-art machinery and processes in action. Visitors will tour four manufacturing bays where company staff will talk about, and be available to answer questions about, production flow, equipment, work practices, quality control and shipping activities. Participants will also see first-hand how technology is being used to manage a structural steel project from the drawing stage to building erection, including use of scanners, managing drawing downloads from detailers, and the company’s use of FabTrol MRP steel fabrication management software. Participants will also be able to attend a steel petting zoo and watch a number of educational videos.
Tom Carpenter, a FabTrol Systems’ Training and Implementation Specialist, will be on hand to demonstrate how FabTrol MRP is being used at Metals Fabrication Co. for estimating; project, drawing, and material management; production; and shipping. Mr. Carpenter will also demonstrate FabTrol MRP’s model-based estimating functionality and provide a preview of upcoming additions to the Estimating module, including automated synchronization of material and labor. Attendees will see firsthand how this synchronization allows fabricators to leverage FabTrol MRP’s robust importing and takeoff entry features to:
- Quickly identify part marks with no labor entered against them.
- Quickly identify identical part marks where labor isn’t synchronized.
- Get material and labor right for one part, and push the changes to all identical part marks.
Tim Mathison, Operations Manager for Metals Fabrication, Co., sees FabTrol MRP as an integral part of the company’s technology tools:
“FabTrol MRP is involved in every aspect of our fabrication from the time we bid the project to the time we ship the last piece – bidding, ordering material, producing the cut lists, tracking the pieces throughout production, QC/piece inspection and shipping. It has eliminated the use of shop drawing at the NC machining centers because the operators can use the FabTrol drawing on their computer. Between using FabTrol and our STS tracking system, we have virtually eliminated all shipping errors.”
