Google Optimizer approved SEO company High Position reveal test results on the power of 301 reditects.
Online PR News – 13-September-2010 – – Five months after SEER International outlined their research into the power of 301 redirects within search, High Position Search Engine Optimisation research and development have announced their own investigation into one of the oldest issues in search. After analysis of the SEER International findings, a member of the High Position R&D team stated:
“There has always been a widespread assumption that 301 redirects pass around 90% of their link juice onto a new URL – It has become apparent that this is not the case for all the major search engines. Significant testing has shown that while Google acknowledges the 301 and passes on the relevant authority within a week, other engines lag behind and in some cases only pass through 20-30% of the power once bestowed upon that website.”
Within their research SEER International outlined the limited amount of juice passed through 301s by Yahoo and especially Bing. Bing have traditionally not given much credence to 301 redirects and the High Position R&D team are keen to monitor whether this changes as the Bing/Yahoo search merger is rolled out:
“We're interested to see what sort of effect a 301 will have once the Yahoo and Bing merger has been completed, and whether it will change the valuation of 301 redirects by both respective search engines.”
