Apex Lifts wins towering new refurb contract

Apex Lifts awarded a City of London tender to refurbish the North and South tower passenger lifts at Tower Bridge.

Online PR News – 07-July-2015 – Bexleyheath, Kent – The Apex Lifts team was tasked with creating new ceilings for the two passenger lifts, fitting them with LED lighting that can change colour through Fob control. Strip lighting was also added to the ceiling perimeters for a fully lit lift experience. All the landing doors have been resprayed and landing architrave protection installed. Plus a new DDA-compliant car operating panel has been installed with LCD position indicator displaying the City of London logo.

Exciting design elements have been added to the lifts by Apex, too, including new lift car flooring added to South tower lift with an arrow to direct passengers to the tower bridge engine rooms, and stylish vinyl graphics have been applied to exit walls, reading “Follow blue line to the Engine Rooms” in the South and “Step Inside” in the North lift to help visitors get their bearings.

“We were working to a set timeframe to refurbish the Tower Bridge lifts,” says Ray Murray, Apex Lifts Repair Sales Consultant. “We were able to complete the works on time in a safe, efficient manner – and the new vinyl designs look great too!”

“The Lift Car Refurbishment at Tower Bridge Towers was completed to a high standard including out of hour working to minimise the disruption of all stakeholders and the general public,” says Patrick Stapleton, Senior Principal Lift Engineer, City of London.

Simultaneously, the Apex engineers visited the Tower of London to conduct further repairs; the passenger lift in the Waterloo Block has had its control panels, door operator and signalling equipment replaced.
