In another New Jersey Money Help article, "Can I stop 401(k) savings because of an inheritance"" Jim offered a five-step process for people who are recipients of a large inheritance. He defines ways people can better utilize this money. "Statistically, recipients of 'sudden wealth,' such as a large inheritance or winning a lottery, are twice as likely to file for bankruptcy within five years of that event as compared to the general population," said McCarthy.
