Blankets & Blessings, a Lee County, FL homeless outreach recently acquired official 'charity' status, making all donations tax-deductible.

Online PR News – 26-June-2015 – Fort Myers, FL – Blankets & Blessings, an outreach program headquartered in Fort Myers, Florida, has been designated as a 501c3 charity. The organization, which works behind the scenes supporting established homeless outreach programs in the Lee County area, has been in existence for over three years. The 501c3 status means that Blankets & Blessings has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, charitable organization.

"Our mission is to be a go-to resource for local homeless outreach programs that are already working the front-lines. For example, we create and distribute toiletry bags, blankets, sunscreen, bug spray, etc… and bring them to the places in Lee County that are serving free dinners to the homeless community," said Kerry Constantine, Founder of Blankets & Blessings.

Tara Geissinger, Treasurer of Blankets & Blessings is hopeful that their tax-deductible status will allow for local businesses to donate in-kind donations like blankets and other supplies. "We would love to connect with local hotels when they're changing out their blankets. I know that many of them are still in good enough condition to be laundered and donated," said Geissinger.

Blankets & Blessings started when Will Constantine, then aged 8, became worried about the families in the area that were homeless and cold. The Constantine family gathered up blankets from friends and drove downtown to distribute them. They never stopped! "One of the things I love the most about Blankets & Blessings is that we've involved kids in volunteering from the very beginning. It's so important for them to participate and see that we're making a difference in our community," said Constantine.

Blankets & Blessings is so committed to involving kids; they have a Kids Board Of Directors that helps decide how the organization can best help homeless kids and families. "I like passing out the supplies and serving dinners to the homeless because it makes me feel good. The people are so thankful and never take more than they need," said Jack Geissinger, age 12.
