The local Smile for a Lifetime MidPeninsula Chapter awards three students with the Gift of a Smile

Online PR News – 24-June-2015 – Palo Alto, Calif. – Three students have been awarded the Smile for a Lifetime No-Cost Braces Scholarship. Smile for a Lifetime MidPeninsula Chapter founder, Dr. Eric Wu of Wu Orthodontics, and his team made a surprise visit to each student to award them with this scholarship in May, 2015.

Recipients of the scholarship are selected based on financial and orthodontic need, good grades, community involvement and letters of recommendation.

Norely, one of this year’s recipients, received a letter of recommendation from her teacher, Francisco, outlining her motivation and drive.
“Norely is among the top three most driven students in her class this year; she participates often and asks questions that promote her learning on a weekly basis,” explains Francisco.
Eleven year old Esmeralda received a recommendation from her community school coordinator.
“She makes a big impression on teachers from her determination, drive and focus as an exemplary scholar,” she explains.
Each scholarship recipient is expected to give back to the community during the course of treatment. Esmeralda will volunteer at Pets in Need. Norely is participating in a Youth Community Service Project where she will visit senior centers, prepare food for the homeless, and read to children. The final eleven year old recipient plans to give back by cleaning the cafeteria and helping his teachers clean and prepare their classrooms.
Dr. Wu and the MidPeninsula Chapter Board Members are thrilled to give back through this unique program.
“What could be better than giving kids a confident smile? Our Smile for a Lifetime scholarship recipients are hard-working, motivated students who give back to their communities. Their dedication should be viewed as an example to everyone, both young and old. They are truly outstanding citizens and we look forward to seeing all that they accomplish,” explains Terry Godfrey, Board Member.
The Smile for a Lifetime MidPeninsula Chapter aims to award six students the gift of a smile this year. For application information regarding Smile for a Lifetime Midpeninsula Chapter, please visit www.wuortho.com/smile-for-a-lifetime.
