Online PR News – 19-June-2015 – GREENVILLE, S.C. – Rebuild Upstate recently completed a handicapped ramp for an Upstate family through the help of the national bicycle advocacy group, Bike & Build.
The home that Bike and Build volunteers worked on was for a single mother who has two disabled children. The family lives on disability, but the mother is going to school full time. Before Rebuild Upstate was contacted to build a ramp, the children were removed from the home because there was no ramp for the children to get in and out of the home safely.
With the new ramp built by Rebuild Upstate and Bike and Build the family will now have a safe way to get in and out of the home.
Through service-oriented cycling trips, Bike & Build benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement. Bike & Build aims to continue expanding nationally and to empower a diverse and motivated participant base while directing increased funding and support to grassroots affordable housing efforts.
To date, more than 2,000 participants have cycled cross-country with Bike & Build, collectively raising more than $4.5 million. In addition, Bike & Build has worked with thousands of Americans to spread awareness about the affordable housing cause. The organization continues to grow as its dedicated program participants and outstanding alumni seek creative ways to continue fundraising, advocating for, and volunteering with affordable housing groups nationwide.
Bike & Build unlocks the potential of young adults to do incredible things. Their participants are the face of the organization, and the driving force behind all that they strive to accomplish. Through engaging young adults as active agents and ambassadors for affordable housing efforts, Bike & Build enables them to test their limits, become engaged and active citizens, and impact the housing landscape.
