Computer Recycle, Refurbish and Redeploy
Online PR News – 04-June-2015 – Los Altos, California – Terence Lee, a freshman at Los Altos High School, is launching his Triple “R” Eagle Service Project today. He has teamed up with Sunday Friends www.sundayfriends.org/get="_blank" class="highlight_link" rel="nofollow">https://www.sundayfriends.org/,on-profit organization in San Jose, to redeploy used laptops to support their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program.
Two problems, one solution
• Kids from very low-income families do not have easy access to computers to reach online educational contents such as the very popular Khan Academy and are lacking necessary computer skills to excel at school.
• Unwanted computers continue to fill our landfills contaminating the environment with toxic, heavy metal chemicals.
“Environment and education are two issues that are dear to my heart. As a third-grader in K-Kids, eyeglass recycling has taught me a valuable lesson on how to redeploy someone’s unwanted item to significantly help others in need,” says Lee. “This lesson from “Share Our Spectacles” program inspires me to pursue this Eagle Service Project.”
The Triple “R” Eagle Service Project
Lee’s Triple “R” Eagle Service Project with Sunday Friends will recycle, refurbish and redeploy older, lower-performance laptop computers (Windows & Mac) to help kids from very low-income families to learn important computer skills and gain easy access to online educational contents. Sunday Friends will provide the facilities for the kids to use the computers to learn as part of their STEM outreach programs.
With community support, unwanted, older but functional laptop computers can receive a purposeful second life in the redeployment program with Sunday Friends. For laptop donations, please e-mail email@example.com. Each laptop will be checked to ensure it is functional with an appropriate power supply, operating system and all personal data removed prior to redeployment.
Kids helping kids
Working together with other Boy Scouts, the Triple “R” Eagle Service Project will help enable Sunday Friends’ children to learn skills to enrich their STEM education and career in the future.
