The exhibition presents the great names of Italian painting from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, rediscovered by Roberto Longhi (1899 / 1890-1970), one of the major figures in the history of Italian art. Giotto, Masaccio, Masolino, Piero della Francesca, Ribera, Caravaggio ... many leading artists will be highlighted as well. With works from the Roberto Longhi Foundation, presented for the first time in France, will meet the works loaned by major French and Italian museums. Iconic artist for which Roberto Longhi was passionate, Caravaggio revolutionized Italian painting of the seventeenth century through a naturalistic painting inspired by a painting marked by chiaroscuro. Around the Boy Bitten by a Lizard, two other works by Caravaggio are exceptionally satisfied: The Crowning with Thorns of Collezione Banca Popolare di Vicenza and the sleeping Cupid Galleria Palatina (Florence).The exhibition will look the works of Caravaggio and his followers, showing the influence of the themes and style of this artist on his contemporaries in Rome first, then throughout Europe. Carlo Saraceni (circa 1579-1620) and Bartolomeo Manfredi (1582-1622) helped to popularize the themes worked by Caravaggio - figures of Christ, biblical scenes ... - and disseminate.
