The conference will be held at the Rebecca School which is located at 40 East 30th Street in New York City and the theme of the conference will be “Respecting Autism in a DIR School”.
Rebecca School’s education programs are based on the Developmental Individual-Differences Relationship (DIR) model developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan. The DIR model stresses upon acknowledging the differences between each child’s processing abilities and their level of functional emotional development. It emphasizes the need for emotionally meaningful interactions and relationships to help build crucial emotional, social, cognitive and academic skills.
Rebecca School holds an annual conference to help inform the attendees on the Floor-time intervention; a crucial component of the DIR model. The keynote speakers at this year’s conference include Dr. Gil Tippy, the Clinical Director and co-founder of the school as well as Dr. Stephen Shore with Jeff Guenzel from the Interdisciplinary Council on Development and Learning (ICDL).
Apart from speeches and introductions by the keynote speakers, the Rebecca School 2015 DIR Conference will feature ‘break out sessions’; a host of presentations conducted by other eminent experts on topics ranging from sensory integration, classroom literacy, promoting symbolic play, basics of DIR/Floortime intervention, music therapy and individual case studies.

Rebecca School’s administration and staff are known for their extensive participation in and contribution to the education system for children with developmental disorders and learning challenges. The Clinical Director and co-founder of the school, Dr. Gil Tippy in collaboration with Dr. Stanley Greenspan, the founder of the DIR model/Floortime therapy published a book called ‘Respecting Autism’, written during the third year of the school’s operation in New York City. The book contains case studies of sixteen students and their personal stories, elaborated upon by Dr. Tippy and accompanied by Dr. Greenspan’s diagnosis and reflections on each case along with a suitable plan to be followed to help the student relate, communicate and think.
