“Wasp-Men From Mars!” Retro Sci-Fi Film Launches Crowdfunding Campaign

Face Off contestant Julian Bonfiglio to provide creature costumes

Online PR News – 18-March-2015 – San Francisco, CA – Scrutari Pictures LLC announced today that it has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter platform for Wasp-Men from Mars!, the latest short film from director Gerrit Thompson. The film is a sci-fi short inspired by the monster invasion movies of the 1950's, with the modern sensibility of today's science fiction and horror. The film's practical effects and creature costumes will be built by Julian Bonfiglio, who is one of the contestants on the current season of Face Off, Syfy’s highly popular special effects makeup competition series.

“I'm really interested with the idea of these wasp creatures,” said Bonfiglio. “It makes me think back to the Predator creature suit. I've always wanted to do creatures like that. So I really want to jump on this project to help bring this to life.”

“This is my love letter to classic monster movies, like THEM! and Invaders From Mars,” said writer-director Thompson. “With Wasp-Men from Mars!, my intention is to honor those earlier films and encourage today’s audiences to seek them out. I hope to make a short film that's fun, scary, overdramatic, and at its heart, very sincere.”

Wasp-Men From Mars! begins with three teenagers on a stargazing trip in 1959 that turns into an evening of heartbreak, jealousy, and sexual confusion — and then giant wasps from outer space invade Earth and make things even worse. The imperiled heroes Suzie, Timmy, and James must try to put their feelings aside if they're to survive the night and each other.

Principal photography for Wasp-Men From Mars! is expected to begin in June, with an initial festival release on and around October 31, followed by broader distribution.
