Bingo Addicts Ditch Weekend Away

Last minute hotel bookings for the August bank holiday weekend are down on last year with Brits choosing instead to enjoy a long weekend at home playing bingo.

Online PR News – 26-August-2010 – – Rather than jetting off to an exotic destination or holidaying in the UK, bingo fans across the country are using the extra day off to play more games, in the hope of winning big cash prizes.

Bingo comparison website found that more than half of their members were choosing to enjoy home comforts during the break, socialising with friends and family whilst playing their favourite game.

The site’s founder, Rob Hutchison, believes bank holidays give players the perfect opportunity to compete for extra cash.

He said: “Over the past few years there have been more players online during bank holidays than at any other time of the year and this year will be no different. With the weather as unpredictable as ever I can understand why people are choosing to have fun indoors.

“It's as if for one weekend the whole country goes bingo mad and long may it continue.

“Online bingo offers bigger prizes than can be found down the local hall, with players able to win hundreds of thousands of pounds. There are big bonuses up for grabs and with many sites free to join it’s no surprise that so many people are logging on during their extra day off.”

Mr Hutchison believes that whilst bank holidays give families a chance to spend some quality time together, there are still plenty of obstacles to overcome in the pursuit of fun.

He said: “It's always great to have a long weekend somewhere with the kids but things are so expensive at the moment for many families a trip away isn't an option.

“Even if you're lucky enough to be able to afford a break there's the bank holiday traffic jams to navigate, which can be particularly frustrating when travelling with young children.

“Many people are choosing to try their luck at winning the big prizes online to make some money instead of spending a fortune, which makes perfect sense.”

Lucy Walker, a 23-year-old receptionist from Huddersfield, said she can't wait to get started on her bank holiday bingo binge.

She said: “Me and my friends are getting together on the Monday to play online bingo, enjoy a few drinks and have a giggle. It’s become a bit of a tradition and normally at least one of us wins some money.

“Last year, my friend won a cash prize and decided to treat her kids to a trip to the zoo which I thought was a really nice touch.

“We've all been working hard and looking forward to playing a few games together for weeks, I hope we can be as lucky as last year.”
