NHJ Style Academy Gives Stylists Springboard into the Industry with Internship and Work Experience

Read how personal stylists are getting the chance to work as interns in London's premier styling school.

Online PR News – 13-March-2015 – London – Since branching out to create the first-of-its-kind stylist training academy in 2008, NHJ Style Academy has worked tirelessly to help students establish their own businesses and create successful, rewarding careers in personal styling.

Nicky says: “We are committed to giving everyone who’s completed one of our courses and coming into the ever-competitive personal styling industry the best possible start.”

“As part of each course, every student has to complete two days’ practical work experience with our NHJ Style team of stylists which not only helps to solidify their learning but also gives them that invaluable hands-on experience which is so vital at the start of their new career. No other style academies offer this opportunity, and we know that it makes all the difference in terms of the future success of our graduates and enabling them to put their course learning into practice in the real world.”
In addition, the top-performing student on each of our Flagship personal styling course is offered the unique opportunity of a two-month internship with NHJ Style.

Clare is the current intern and says that for the lucky chosen graduate, this is the beginning of a whole new world. “Every single week is crammed with amazing experiences and a real variety of activities. I can’t think of any better way to begin a new career than spending time assisting these incredible professionals and learning the ropes from them. I absolutely loved every minute of the styling course and the work experience, but this has just catapulted me into my new life as a personal stylist. I couldn’t have imagined that this is where I would end up when I signed up for the course, and I’m so excited about my future. I’d encourage anyone to sign up for a course, as it’s given me a real sense of confidence in my ability to enter this incredible profession.”

The internship gives students a true insight into the job, as well as the chance to pick the brains of the top stylists working with Nicky. Clare continues: “There isn’t really such a thing as a typical week, but normally I’d get involved in things like a wardrobe session with a client where we look inside their wardrobe and organise their clothes into several categories.

“Once we know what they already have, we can plan how to help them shop for new items which bring their current outfits bang up-to-date. That session is always followed up with a shopping session to find their new wardrobe. It’s always so satisfying when a client loves something you’ve picked out for them and has the confidence to wear something they may not have chosen themselves.

“The NHJ Style team is also called upon to style corporate groups, which is a lot of fun. We go through the season’s key trends and help each member of the group identify ideas on how to put outfits together and wear the trends.

“We do a lot of preparation for styling events too, which means hitting the shops to get a selection of items that cover the major current trends. I’ve quickly learned that starting a day like this is far easier when you’ve done your research and you’re prepared. If I know which stores to hit and what I’m looking for, I can tick the items off my list much faster!

“I’m also really lucky to have taken part in training the team of personal shoppers at a major international airport to help them develop their skills and increase the turnover of the airport retailers. It’s crazy to think what a difference they can make to what each customer spends. That’s the kind of task that puts my new role into perspective. I can’t wait to get started on my own, but for now I’m going to savour every day of this amazing experience as an intern!”
