Brightside Academy partners with St. Christopher's Hospital for Children to help preschoolers learn to cope with doctor's visits through Teddy Bear Clinic.
Online PR News – 11-March-2015 – Philadelphia, PA – Brightside Academy is partnering with St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children to help preschoolers learn to cope with doctor’s visit through a Teddy Bear Clinic. The events will be held Friday, March 13 at 1500 E. Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124 and Wednesday, March 18 at 111 W. Erie Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19141 at 9:30 a.m.
The St. Christopher’s staff often use medical play as a tool to help children work through fears and frustrations, and teach them about going to the doctor.
The Teddy Bear Clinic gives children the opportunity to “examine” their teddy bears through rotation stations, while a child life specialist educates the preschoolers on how and why each piece of equipment is used. The children will measure the teddy bear’s height and weight, examine their eyes and ears, and listen to the heartbeat with a stethoscope, as well as review vaccinations, and blood pressure. The Teddy Bear Clinic will conclude with the children touring an ambulance.
“The clinic will help the children feel more comfortable and ease their fears when visiting the doctor. Helping children learn through play engages children and encourages curiosity. It also allows them to ask questions to the hospital staff, and feel safer in a hospital,” stated Thelma Davis, Brightside Academy Area Business Director, in Philadelphia.
Brightside Academy is proud to work with community partners to educate families about health safety, and create a nurturing learning environment for children.
