The crew and captains at Key West Top Guides are getting ready for a unique Key West fishing tournament, the Mercury S.L.A.M. Celebrity Light-Tackle Tournament taking place from September 11th – 13th

Online PR News – 08-September-2009 – – This fall, Key West Top Guides will participate in a series of three Key West fishing tournaments to benefit the fight against cystic fibrosis. The first of these, the Mercury SLAM Celebrity Light-Tackle Key West fishing tournament, takes place the weekend of September 11th. The event will feature several celebrities competing in a tournament that will target the "big three" in the world of light-tackle Key West fishing: tarpon, permit, and bonefish.

There are many Key West fishing tournaments throughout the year, but the Mercury SLAM Celebrity fishing tournament is one of the few whose top priority is to raise money for a charitable cause. To date, the Mercury celebrity tournaments have raised over $5 million that have been donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Anglers looking to participate in this one-of-a-kind event can register for the event at $2500 individual rate that includes participation in all events throughout the weekend as well as the opportunity to go on one of the tournament's Key West fishing charters alongside one of the participating celebrities. Two anglers can join at the rate of $3,000.

"This is one of the most exciting fishing Key West tournaments," says Key West Top Guides Key West fishing charters captain Ted Lenny. "It's great to have these celebrities from different fields like sports and TV come out to Key West and help raise money for a good cause while experiencing the world of Key West fishing."

The late summer and early fall season is an ideal time for a light-tackle Key West fishing trip. The waters off the coast of Key West are teeming with a variety of light-tackle fish species. Catching and releasing the "big three" in one day is considered a "flats grand slam," but this feat is not that hard to accomplish during these months.

The Key West fishing charters captains participating in the event are an experienced team of captains that are highly knowledgeable of the Key West fishing waters. Fishing Key West with these captains alongside a recognized celebrity is an experience that many are willing to spend the money on, especially when it is going to a good cause.

"We're really excited about this tournament in particular," says Key West Top Guides president Chris Gardner. "There's a feeling of camaraderie and excitement that is not always present in other tournaments."

Key West Top Guides is the top center for Key West fishing charters and they are proud to be participating in this year's Mercury SLAM Celebrity Light-Tackle tournament. Year-round, the center offers a variety of off-shore, light-tackle, and flats Key West fishing charters.
