UCL uses KantanMT.com to train Professional Translators studying Master of Arts degree Translation Theory and Practice

Online PR News – 25-January-2015 – Dublin, Ireland – KantanMT is pleased to announce a continued partnership between the Masters programmes in translation offered at University College London (UCL) and the Dublin based machine translation technology start-up.

UCL first joined the KantanMT University Partnership program in early 2014, and since then the university has integrated teaching the KantanMT.com platform in a number of its degree modules. The most recent of these is a module on translation technology within the MA in Translation Theory and Practice. The advanced translation technology module ‘Understanding and Using Translation Technology II’ is a continuation of ‘Translation Technology I’, and will cover techniques of terminology extraction, methodologies for localizing software and web content, and the customization of machine translation engines.

Guided by lecturer Dr. Mark Shuttleworth, 20 students will learn to build and customize their Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) systems using the cloud-based KantanMT.com platform over the coming weeks.

“The KantanMT platform combines a simple and intuitive interface that will enable the students to clearly and easily gain a deeper understanding of building and managing customized machine translation engines,” said Dr Mark Shuttleworth, Lecturer, UCL. “The use of language technology is now more prominent than ever before, and by educating our students on the KantanMT platform we are fully preparing them for their future careers in the language industry.”
