Online PR News – 03-September-2009 – – This marks the first time Fernandes has choreographed for a SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE franchise, giving Canada the opportunity to highlight Bollywood with the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 18.

Few stories have been written about Longinus Fernandes that don’t mention the omission of his name from the credits of the Academy Award-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. But when director Danny Boyle acknowledged the oversight from the Oscar stage, it boosted the Mumbai-based choreographer’s fame far more than a rolling credit.

“I was really touched,” said Fernandes during an interview with Atlanta Journal Constitution of Boyle’s gesture to make things right. “He really exemplifies humanity. An ordinary choreographer became extraordinary in a matter of minutes.”
With credits for some 350 music videos, and more than 100 films, commercials, theater productions and television shows — including a stint on the Indian version of Dancing with the Stars — Fernandes easily has become the most sought Bollywood choreographer in the world.

Fernandes recently received the prestigious 2009 Filmfare Best Choreography Award for Best Film Choreographer (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane). The Filmfare ceremony is one of the oldest and most prominent film events given for Hindi films in India and has been referred to as Bollywood's equivalent of the Oscar®. Fernandes also received the 2009 Astaire Award for Slumdog Millionaire.

“I’m unbelievably honoured to be part of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA and have the opportunity to feature Bollywood,” said Fernandes. “I’ve been given such talented dancers to work with, and I’m glad this show pushes dancers to learn new types of dance – especially international styles.”
