DirectRooms.com reveals that Vietnam will be holding a special festival for some of the world’s best puppeteers during September
Online PR News – 06-August-2010 – – Running from 20th to 30th September, the country’s capital city of Hanoi will be the stage for the second International Marionette Festival Hanoi 2010.
Visitors to the festival can see performances from Vietnam’s leading artists which will include the Vietnam National Puppetry Theatre, the Thang Long Puppetry Theatre and troupes from Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong and Dak Lak.
Along with domestic puppeteers the festival has also invited international groups to take part and the event will feature representatives from Brazil, Belgium, Egypt, Israel, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sweden, Singapore, Thailand and China.
Traditional Vietnamese puppet shows are usually performances of folklore and day to day village life of people living in the countryside. Visitors to the capital staying in Hanoi hotels will be able to experience humorous tales of events related to farming, fishing and buffalo fights, all told through the medium of puppets.
Festival goers are able to see a variety of puppet styles in action including shows acted out using rod, string shadow, mask, black stage and hand puppetry. One of the country’s most famous styles, water puppetry, will also be performed by troupes at the festival.
Water puppetry was first established in Northern Vietnam by a collection of farmers as they gathered together after the harvest to relax and perform impromptu plays. Water logged rice fields were the stage and this popular art form has been carried on through generations ever since.
People attending the festival can catch this and the other artistic forms at the National Puppetry Theatre which plays host for the event.
