Provocative American spy thriller eBook, "Permanent Enemy" by Nigerian author, Paul Roberts has cracked best-sellers lists in Germany, Canada, Australia and UK.
Online PR News – 17-August-2014 – Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Largely ignored in the United States, the provocative American spy novel: “Permanent Enemy” by Nigerian-born novelist and filmmaker, Paul Roberts is now an international best-seller after the eBook cracked Amazon’s Top 100 Political Thrillers best-sellers list in four major territories—Germany, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, where the novel continues to maintain a Top 100 position in its genre for 29 days straight, and counting.
Set in Washington, D.C., Egypt, Sub-Sahara Africa and the Mediterranean island of Corsica, “Permanent Enemy” is a politically charged espionage thriller about a CIA covert operation to end the systematic killing of an ethnic group in Africa, which had already claimed millions of lives while a corrupt United Nations Organization continues ineffectual economic sanctions and endless debates on the crisis.
The action-packed international intrigue opens with a late-night bloodbath in the jungle between American commandos and foreign mercenaries hired by a group of US government officials to kill their own in order to sabotage the mission!
After hitting a brick wall trying to persuade American publishers to pick up the title, and being informed by a veteran literary agent that his novel is too provocative, Roberts wondered what happened to freedom of expression in America. “This is fiction. It didn’t happen!” Roberts defended to no avail. In the end, he decided to self-publish and began a journey to share a universal story that he was sure would resonate among a wide spectrum of readers out there.
Roberts, who was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria before emigrating to the United States, is extremely gratified that “Permanent Enemy” is now gaining international recognition, and wishes to thank readers, his distributor and all the retail channels that have embraced it. “I never set out to deliberately provoke. I simply wanted to tell a unique, compelling and entertaining story that makes people think.”
Growing up in Lagos, Roberts was a voracious reader of American and British spy novels, and he’s greatly influenced by such Western and African literary giants as the late Robert Ludlum, Chinua Achebe, Frederick Forsyth, Tom Clancy, Wole Soyinka, Ken Follett and Jack Higgins, to name a few. At his base in South Florida, he’s furiously at work on forthcoming novels in his Action-Pak series of thrillers, of which, “Permanent Enemy” is the first out the door.
Roberts is also directing the American action movies: “Fight or Die!” and “Revenge Is A Promise” for his movie production company, Action-Pak Media.
“I try to stay busy,” he said with a grin. That’s quite an understatement.
